Some proposed interview questions of Carroll Countians?
1. What do you think is the number one issue that will determine how an undecided voter will vote?
2. Do you think the Democratic party and Republican party, as a whole, differ significantly on any meaningful issues and, if so, what issues?
3. Do you think we should have a specific timetable for withdrawal from Iraq? If so, what sort of timetable?
4. Do you think the original invasion of Iraq was justified?
5. Other than when we may be attacked by a foreign country, do you think any invasion of any foreign country is justified? What about in foreign areas such as Darfur and Somalia where people are being murdered, women raped, children starved, and all sorts of atrocities committed by the government? Are we obligated to help by force if necessary, even if our own soldiers are killed?
6. Do you think we should have a draft for our armed services?
7. Do you think enough is being done as relates to homeland security? What suggestions, if any?
8. Would you favor the curtailing of certain civil liberties if terrorist acts were to become more prevalent in the United States - such as tapping phones and conducting searches without warrants as well as restrictions on the control of guns?
9. How would you feel about a wall being built along the Mexican/U.S. border?
10. What should we do about the illegal alien/immigrant situation in the country, especially as relates to sort of amnesty and legal status?
11. Should cities and/or states have the right to pass laws which in effect makes it a criminal offense to employ an illegal immigrant?
12. Should there be unlimited access to America by all who want to come? Why or Why not?
13. Should the government subsidize the ethanol industry? Subsidize any alternative energy form? Why or why not.
14. Should the government subsidize the agricultural/farming business? automobile business? steel industry? any industry or business? Why or why not.
15. Do you think our government should subsidize certain industries to prevent them from moving factories overseas? Reasons.
16. Do you believe in a free market when it comes to energy…i.e., demand determines prices or should the government control energy prices? Should the government control housing prices? Should the government control food prices? Please explain.
17. What is your position on the abortion issue?
18. Should everyone irrespective of income have essentially the same access to health care? If so, how would that best be provided?
19. Is there adequate control of gun ownership in America? How would you change gun control?
20. Should there be any sort of income tax reform? Do you believe the wealthy should be taxed more than they are presently? Would you be in favor of a national sales tax and the elimination of the income tax if the same income could be collected?
21. Do you think that a gay couple should be entitled to a civil recognition of their partnership, even if it is not called a marriage? Should they be entitled to the same benefits as married people when it comes to taxes, medical insurance, social security benefits, etc.?
22. Should the primary responsibility for funding and educating children be local, state, or federal?
23. Should one be given the choice of where he or she wants to attend a public school?
24. Are you concerned at all about our federal deficit?
25. Who do you think should primarily determine our foreign policy with various countries, the President or the Congress?
26. If we have to close factories or increase the cost of goods in order to potentially positively affect climate change, would you be in favor of one or both?
27. Do you think federal judges in general are “too active” as relates to social issues? If so, please explain.
28. Do you think the Congress, by a 2/3 majority, should have the right to override any decision of the Supreme Court?
29. Should every adult have the choice of seeking private employment, including self-employment, or being provided a job with the federal government with at least a “living wage” income and health insurance coverage similar to most government employees?
30. Should the government provide shelter and food for anyone who cannot otherwise provide for their own food and shelter, due to lack of skills or for physical/mental reasons? If so, how would this best be done?
31. What role, if any, should religion have in politics?
32. Physician-Assisted Suicides?

34. Is there ever any justification for torture of a terrorist prisoner?

37. What % of the voters in Carroll County would you view to be “card carrying†Democrats or Republicans, that is, generally committed to the party, irrespective of the nominee.
