For almost 50 years, Carroll County in Tennessee has mirrored the sentiment of the entire nation when it comes to electing presidents. Simply put, the candidate that has won in Carroll County has also carried the nation in the last eleven (11) presidential elections. Consequently, it is being proposed that the presidential election be confined to the voters of Carroll County, commonly referred to as “the bellwether county.” In this event, the various candidates would appear only in Carroll County, they would limit their campaign advertising and expenses to Carroll County, they would only have to persuade the voters of Carroll County as to their many virtues and the opposition’s many vices. The pollsters could save untold sums of money by limiting their polling to Carroll Countians while at the same time exempting the citizenry at large from those pestering polling questions. The national electorate would forgo the continuous bombarding barrage of tv and radio ads glorifying and vilifying candidates. The candidates would save valuable wear and tear on their bodies and spirit. Further, a simple solution as well to all of the voting machine problems across 50 states. It is submitted that the good folks in Carroll County would be willing to suffer for the well-being of the nation and endure themselves alone the many trials and tribulations associated with elections. It is further submitted that the good folks of the rest of the nation would recognize the benefits of just one county election, especially when that county represents their mood and opinions anyway.
